A Busy Week

Wow, its been a busy week! We've been working hard cutting trails; clearing camping spots; trimming, cleaning and exploring. We've also been busy taking care of all the critters and welcoming some new ones!

Mama Muscovy duck and her five babes are now "released" into the Kappa Cove pond. They LOVE it! I was a little worried that they would go wild and they have still not come up to the coop at night, but they do come swimming over when I go down with food.

The two new hens, Buffy and Willow, that came with the Muscovies are now out freeranging with the rest of the flock and sleeping in the coop at night :)

During the week, I treated myself to a couple of new (used) gifts, a bicycle, two fishing rods, and a big BBQ for fests!

The BBQ is great- it has a propane grill section and a charcoal section, plus a burner and lots of shelves! It'll be great for festivals!

Also during the week, I bought some "Dulse" from the Country Marke down the steeet from me

Dulse is seaweed, it is crazy good for you. Here's a good article about it: http://www.livestrong.com/article/418798-the-benefits-of-dulse-seaweed/

Honestly, I thought it tasted like disgusting dirty saltwater fish tank water. However, piles of my crazy Pagan friends thought it was delicious. What a bunch of weirdos! Because it's crazy good for me, I've been adding a little into my diet every day, but I've been breaking it up into flakes and hiding it in things :)

I also got some new ducks and hens this week (Today). I got three Saxony ducks and five Australrop cross hens.

The Saxony ducks are almost a year old. The two front ducks are gals and the back one is a drake.

Three of the hens are black and two are red

Loch Ness Pond

In preparation for my guests that are coming in August, I have been scouting out the back pond as i need to put a path to it so people can go swimming and fishing.

This pic was taken from the house side of the pond. It shows the small creek that runs into the pond. From what i can tell it runs from Loch Ness Pond to Kappa Cove.

I used this tree to come over the creek to get to the far side of the pond

This pic was taken on the far side of the pond. I'm standing on the shore, so the pic shores the shoreline of the house side of the pond.

I'm about 3-4 feet into the pond. The water is abot 3/4 way up my rain boots.

There are freshwater mussels in the pond.

This pic and the one below shows the "shore" or "beach" of the far side of the pond.

Another pic taken from the far side of the pond of the side of the pond closest to the house
.

More shore from the far side of the pond.

The creek I crossed on the way home. I went further from the pond to cross and found the creek gets very small and easy to cross.

This is what I've managed to map out so far:
I have been adjusting the map as I explore more of the land. Sadly there are no path that go into the back of the property so its hard to explore.I'm working on putting paths in

Loch Ness Pond is a trout pond :) I got a couple of cheap used fishing rods today and plan on doing some fishing tomorrow!
Hugs!

Snakes, Salamanders, Ducks, and Hens

I've been busy busy busy around here getting more grass mowed, more camping area cleaned up and taking care of the new feather babies. Love this place so much!

Here's my two new hens out in the pen enjoying some fresh air. They are about eight weeks old. the white one is named Buffy while the grey one is called Willow. I LOVE the look of the grey one! She's gorgeous. Going to be amazing looking when she gets older! They have to stay penned for about a week so the other hens can get use to them (you cannot just add new hens to a flock as the other hens will kill them)

I have been throwing all the rotted wood and twigs I pick up in the new fire pit. I had planned on having a fire on the weekend. I found a big stone and went to add it to the fire pit edging and damn, there is a snake making its home under all the wood in the fire pit! If I hadn't of noticed it, I could of burnt the poor little guy alive! :(  How horrible! So, I chased the snake out and burnt the wood in the fire pit so no one else would try making a home there. Lesson learned!

This is a Northern Red Belly snake. I found him under a rotted old board I moved. It is much smaller than the Maritime Garter snakes I had been seeing.

And this is a Blue Spotted salamander. He was under the same rotted board the Red Belly snake was.

And here's mama duck and her babes. I gotta admit, ducks are really messy and stinky! WAY stinky than hens are. My project for tonight is too get the coop ready for them cause they stink too much to be in the house! Five adult hens didn't stink half as bad as mama duck and her six ducklings!

Back Online

Well, I finally got internet again! What a mess up!

We had made arrangements (two weeks before we moved) with Eastlink to hook up our internet the day after we moved in. Due to our 800 foot long driveway we checked with them three times to confirm that they would be able to give us service here. They told us "absolutely. They had already had service here before". They lied. They had never had service here before. So when the guy finally showed up he was unable to hook us up. We ended up calling Xplornet (same company we used in Coe Hill and in Wyoming). They of course could hook us up, but Xplornet generally takes 10-14 days to get someone out to hook things up. Thanks Eastlink, you suck huge. If they hadn't of lied we would of had Xplornet booked before we moved and this would never of happened. Now that I have internet, Eastlink will be getting an ear full from me. Due to their lie they have cost me 18 days of work, which is about $1500. That's not cool at all.

Health wise I am doing OK. I am getting things done and I have many tests coming up. The Nova Scotia health care people are fantastic. Honestly, it could be something as little as a fungal infection to something as big as cancer. I will not know until I get all the tests done. I will not be discussing it with anyone outside my immediate family until I know for sure. Right now I am focusing on positive things and do not need a bunch of negativity and do not have the strength to deal with everyone else's emotions. Please do not ask me about it, I will discuss it when I know more and I am am ready. Thank you for your caring and understanding. No matter what it is, I'm going to be OK. The Goddess Fortuna guided us here to Nova Scotia as this is where I need to be to be healed, emotionally, mentally and physically.

We LOVE the new place. It is FANTASTIC! The house and the property both need some serious work, but have amazing potential. The house needs painting from top to bottom and needs a bunch of repairs, but it is big and has lots of room and though its not amazing, it's going to work out fine. The property is a dream come true. It hasn't been cared for properly for many years, but with love it's going to be great!
