July 31

Well, it's the end of July already. WOW! where did the summer go? Here's some photos of stuff going on around my place :)

The turkey poults are almost a year old and went outside (in the dog pen) for the first time ever. They really enjoyed it. taco and I sat beside the cage to ensure they stayed safe!

We now have a lovely blue heron living in the front pond! He's very beautiful.

My son Travis and I made our first blueberry pie ever on the weekend. It doesn't look perfect, but it tasted great!

Figgy and Mama Muscovy have set up a nest in the back corner of the house behind some old window panes. Not the best place for a nest. It's not very safe :( I'm not sure what I'm gonna do about it. I would really like them to hatch eggs, but a safer nest location would be great.

The Choke cherries will be ripe soon. I made jam last year, it was good, but a bit too sweet. I'm gonna try again this year :)

My new ducks, Molly and Polly, are doing well. they are so cute!

And lastly, a seldom seen photo of a Saxony duck laying an egg on top of a Leghorn Chicken, cause when you gotta lay, you gotta lay.
The poor leghorn was being crushed to death, so we had to remove the Saxony (right after we took a pic of course!)

Silver Appleyard Ducks

I got two lovely Silver Appleyard ducks today. They are 4-5 weeks old. Someone here in Thorburn was selling them and I just couldn't resist! I *think* they are females (can't be 100% sure at this age). I have three drakes for eight females, so wouldn't to add a couple more ladies to help prevent fights. Duck are thankfully super easy to ass to the flock, especially females. They were part of the "quack pack" in minutes.

This is Molly and Polly

My turkey poults, Mork and Mindy are doing fantastic. They are growing and still looking very healthy. They love herbs, so have been eating basil, dill, parsley and rosemary daily, plus day lily petals

After the goshawk attack, I decided I need a distance weapon, so I got out my slingshot. I'm not a gun person. Think they are stupid. I prefer a bow or a sling. A sling is quick and easy, and ammo is everywhere.

And lastly my chicks are now about 5 weeks old and out free ranging. I'm nervous, but they gotta get use to their flock. They'll be sleeping in the big coop by the end of the week.

Patreon

Hi! hope everyone is doing great!

As I am almost retired from dancing and down to seeing only 1-2 fellas per week, I am trying to change over to more of an online format so I can still stay in contact with all the great fellas I've meant over the years. A sweet gentleman sent me a link to Patreon yesterday and after checking it out, I thought I'd give it a try.

On Patreon, you become a "patron" for a monthly fee (ranging from $5-$75 per month). You get "rewards" for you patronage. My "rewards' are access to nude photo sets, striptease videos, a PDF of my new book "Memoirs of an Exotic Dancer" and more.

Here is my Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/TrishTemptation

I'm still working on getting it all set up, so please excuse any mistakes :)

For any musician, artist, photographer, model friends, check out the site, it may be a viable way to share your art and make some money: https://patreon.com/invite/dyxkgd

Goshawk, Jasmine and Turkey Poults

Yesterday was a bit of a crazy day around here. We had a new rescue kitty come in. her name is Jasmine, she's 9-10 years old. She is doing very well, not as scared as many of the other kitty cats that we get. She's an indoor/outdoor kitty, so once she's comfortable she'll get to go outside. Outdoor cats help to keep my featherbabies safer by chasing off predators.

My new turkey poults, Mork and Mindy are doing great. They are about 12 days old now. They eat like crazy! They LOVE tomato leaves, lettuce, cabbage, and hard boiled eggs. They are very friendly and calm; much friendlier than chicken chicks

The big excitement of yesterday was that we got attacked by a goshawk. My mama hen and her three chicks were outside in the dog pen and that goshawks attacked them. The top of the dog pen is covered, so the goshawk couldn't get in from above, so landed beside the pen on the ground and grabbed my barred rock chick by the head and tried to pull it through the bars out of the cage. We heard mama chicken scream and ran outside to see our new Muscovy duck drake, Rocky, jump on the goshawk. Thanks to Rocky, we were able to get to the chick in time and save her! Rocky ripped a bunch of feathers out of the goshawk before it escaped. The poor chick was in shock, but thankfully recovered. All the other chickens had run to hide under the lilac tree at the other side of the house. Sadly, our two roosters deserted mom and chicks. I'm not too impressed with that!

Rocky is a hero! Thanks to him, our beloved chick is alive. If he hadn't of attacked the goshawk, we wouldn't have gotten there in time. We got a Muscovy drake for flock protection. Rocky did exactly what i got him for! Now, we just need our Tom Turkey, Mork to get bigger! Tom turkeys are excellent flock protectors. They'll tell everyone else to run while they face down an eagle.

The chicks are on lock down for a few days till we are sure the goshawk isn't coming back.

Chicks and Poults

The chicks I bought for my hen Hyde are growing well. They are almost five weeks old now. The Frizzle (seen below) is getting crazier looking! Hopefully I'm wrong, but I think the Frizzle is a rooster :(

This one is a Barred Rock :) I *think* it's a girl. Her name is Polgara

This one is named Tweetie. I Think it's a boy. Hopefully I'm wrong. The roosters I'll be rehoming.

I got some Turkey poults Friday night. They are a week old. So now I have two turkeys! YAY! I plan on keeping the two (assuming they are a male and female as pets (with benefits). I can sell molted feathers on Etsy and sell their fertilize eggs. I am hand raising them so they will be nice and tame. I've called them Mork and Mindy. They are a cross of two heritage breeds; Royal Paln and Bronze.

Taco, my Chihuahua like his new chicks :)

And here's a better pic of them. So cute!

In other news, I got the half collapsed garbage filled garage knocked down and buried about eight feet down! YAY! No more garbage :) The feather babies are loving the expanded yard :)

A Rough Week

I had a horribly rough week last week. I'm glad it's a fresh new week, full of great potential and possibilities!

Last week, my pug Buddha got very ill and had to go to the vet's. :( He has fluid in his lungs (see the video on my last post). he sounds much like me when I get sick; he can't breath well, starts coughing if he moves, and has to lay around, staying still all day. The vet gave him some pills, so he should be better in just a couple of days. However, due to his age and breed, he will have lungs problems now for the rest of his life. He can no longer go outside on really hot days (just like me!).

My new internet company totally messed me up by taking their money without giving me any notice. I got my internet hooked up with TNC on the 16th of last month. They never told me what day they would be withdrawing their money. I stupidly assumed they would send me a bill (cause you know that's what a normal company would do). Nope, they just took the money from my account on the 5th, no bill, no notice, nothing. As I was not prepared and had just paid my rent and hydro bill, I didn't have the money for it, so it bounced and I got a $48 NSF charge. Gee, thanks. I called TNC and complained. When I asked them why they didn't send any type of notification, they said their workman forgot to get my email address. I guess calling me or sending me a bill via the mail was too hard for them. So their workmen screw up and I pay $48 for it. Doesn't seem very fair to me, but what else is new. Companies are always screwing me over, it's sad :(

I had a dental accident on Friday last week. Have to go to the dentist this week. That sucks badly. Due to the accident, I'm unable to work (offline) till I get things taken care of. Damn, that's hurts. :(

My roosters, Wally and Stalin, got into a big fight on Friday. Stalin is a year old Rhode Island Red and Wally is a two year old silkie. Wally was the head rooster, Stalin is the head rooster now. Wally isn't taking it well. He won't eat and he won't hang out with the other chickens now :( He just hides in the bushes and sulks. I talked to some chicken people on a Facebook book I'm on and they tell me it's normal. Some roosters don't take being dethroned well. I hope Wally snaps out of it. I care about him very much.

On Saturday, my new Muscovy Skittles went down from a niacin deficiency. It's extremely common in ducks. I read at least five posts a week on my duck /chicken Facebook groups about it. My older ducks do a lot of foraging so get niacin from the grass they eat, sadly the two new Muscovy ducks don't. Thankfully, I knew the signs and got her to eat some niacin rich food right away and she's ok now.

Last week was one shit things after another, it sucked.

However, a couple of good things happened last week; my book review was in the Herald (see two posts down), got a couple of Etsy orders and my beloved Pug is going to be ok. Honestly, all that really matters is my Pug is going to be ok. I would of been devastated if I had lost him. He is my world.

It's a brand new week. I'm sure it's gonna be better! Wishing you all the very best! Have a great week friends! Hugs and love!

Frizzle Chickens and Clean Muscovy Ducks

The three new chicks are doing great. Their mama loves loves loves them! Hyde is an excellent mama, she's taking great care of them. I was a little shocked when I saw my favorite chick's feathers growing weird! What the heck!?

I posted her pic on one of my fav Facebook group- Maritime Fowl, and immediately had an answer. She's a frizzle (or a frizzle cross). WOW! I had never seen a frizzle before! What a cutie! and what a deal to get one for only $2.50! Her name is now "Ms Frizzle", which is the main character from the show "Magic School Bus", which was one of my son's fav shows when he was little :) The little black with white chick behind Ms Frizzle looks like it's a Barred Rock. YAY! Barred Rocks are a fantastic breed!

The two new Muscovy ducks, now called Rocky and Skittles, are doing much better! I have been putting out tons of water for them to bathe in and they are finally starting to look white! and they don't stink anymore!

Rocky went to the pond today. He wanted to have sex with Mama Muscovy and that was the only way he was gonna get any (The things a poor fella has to do just to get laid!).

He came out of the pond looking pretty wet :( It took the poor guy almost an hour to get dry and he was shivering and shaking :( This is what happens when a duck isn't given adequate water to bathe in. They end up losing their natural oils that make their feather waterproof. Domestic ducks don't need a pond, but they do need a kiddie pool or something large enough to bathe in. Poor guy.
