Book Covers

I would love your opinion on what book cover you like best! 

These are drafts, so are not perfect. The photos are watermarked as I have not purchased the actual photos yet (I'll purchase the photo that is chosen). please just ignore the watermarks and if things are not exactly centered etc. Once we pick the final cover, I'll pretty everything up then ( they're drafts!).

MIA

Hi!

Sorry I have been MIA the last couple of weeks, I have been crazy busy doing the final rewrite on my "Memoirs of an Exotic Dancer". I will hopefully be handing them back to my co-writer/editor on Friday and she'll be getting to work right away, fixing my grammar and making it flow better. We also still have to sort of how/where we are dividing it into chapters (I bounce around a little bit in my telling), and I need to make the book cover. I'll make the book cover while Steph is fixing it up. And then we are ready to publish. We've got our focus on and we are determined to have it publish by the end of March at the latest. It will be available in most of the eBook formats, PDF and in real book form.

I'm excited to finally get it done!

I have been fighting a cold, trying to stop it from getting too bad. For the last two months my breathing has slowly been going down hill. I am definitely going to be back on prednisone before the end of Feb. I'm trying to hold off going to the Dr for it, as I have a breathing test next Friday and if I'm on prednisone it will mess up my test results. At the moment, it's not dire. I'm huffing and puffing by the time I get to the top of my driveway (which is about 1KM long). I really need to get the breathing test done so the Dr can treat me properly.

In sad news, my cat Rollie died last week. My poor son Travis went to check the mail and found him dead on the side of the road.Poor kid was just devastated. He carried Rollie home and we got him buried. Rollie was born in our home four years ago and was the biggest asshole of a cat I have ever meant, but damn, he was our asshole :(

Mr. Hootie Featherpants

I had an exciting day today. When my son went to check the mail he found an owl on the side of the road that had been hit by a car. The poor owl had a badly broken wing. My son caught him easily and carefully carried him home. 

We called him Mr Hootie Featherpants

The poor owl is in shock; hence why he is so calm. He was obviously in a lot of pain. 

I went on Facebook and hollered for help. One friend does owl rescue in Ontario and was able to give us some advice, other friends helped us contact wildlife rescues, and other friends helped us contact veterinarian in the area. After about an hour of contacting people, the New Glasgow vet said they'd take him! YAY! 

So Mr Hootie Featherpants made it to the vet alive! and the vet said his wing looks fixable! Once his wing is fixed, he's off to a rehab :)

And his official name at the wildlife rehab is: Mr Hootie Featherpants (after Spongebob Squarepants)

Sarcoidosis Warrior

This week I've been working on some "Sarcoidosis Warrior" designs. Honestly when I was first diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and was told that the purple awareness ribbon and the snowflake were symbols of the disease, I thought it was all rather silly. To me, it seemed a bit whiny and attention getting. However, I was wrong. The "symbols" are all about gaining awareness, and as sarcoidosis is a fairly rare disease, awareness means money for research, which is desperately needed. Awareness also helps with understanding and helps those who are fighting the disease. Awareness helps those fighting the disease get the government help they need; at the moment it is extremely difficult for people with sarcoidosis to get disability (the disease can kill, causes horrible pain and exhaustion, and can spread through the whole body. Some people can easily work with the disease, others cannot). Many Doctors have no idea what  Sarcoidosis is and sadly getting proper treatment is extremely difficult.

Sarcoidosis got purple for their awareness ribbon as it is an autoimmune disease (and they all get purple). We get the snowflake cause we are all a bunch of "special snowflakes" LOL. Seriously, it's because sarcoidosis affects us all differently: I have it in my lungs and lymph nodes, while the next person can have it in their brain and kidney, and the next person in their eyes and heart. It can spread from organ to organ quickly, but it can also magically disappear just as quickly. All snowflakes are different and all sarcoidosis cases are different.

Ice Fishing, Roosters and My Flock

I love having ponds! They are so much fun! Today I decided that my son and I needed to go ICE FISHING! So much FUN! We sadly did not catch anything, but had a blast, and now that we have the hole, it's easy to open again for some more fishing fun. 

Here is an action shot of me getting ready to club and net a fish! 

You know if anything had popped out of that hole I would of screamed, fallen over backwards and probably hit myself in the head with the mallet! LOL!

 This handsome fella is Stalin. He was suppose to be a HEN ... he's not :( Oh well! Such is life. Now I have two roosters (and 10 hens). Stalin is much more watchful and protective of his ladies than my other rooster Wally is. He's thankfully very friendly with people.

Sprained Wrist and Another Missing Duck

Well, yesterday was a bit of a bad day for me.

In the morning, I went down to the front pond to break the ice in the "duck pool" area (the "duck pool" is a kiddie pool size area that I have been breaking the ice on daily so the ducks can grab a quick swim. ). We had about an inch of snow overnight and I misstepped and stepped onto the thin ice area and boom, I went straight through into the pond. Damn

I now know that the pond is about 3 feet deep about 2 feet from shore.

Falling into the pond sucks, but it's not the end of the world cause the house is only a 30 second walk away. Unfortunately, I hit my wrist when I fell and woke up today with it badly bruised and swollen. I think it's sprained, but not sure. I put ice on it and have now wrapped it. If it gets worse, I'll head to the hospital. It's definitely not broken.

To make the day worse, Peanut, my last Muscovy girl has disappeared. Mama Muscovy and the new duck Figgy are still there, but Peanut is gone. We searched all over yesterday, no signs of struggle, no blood, no feathers, nothing.

I have no idea where she went :( I'll of course keep looking!

These Muscovy ducks are killing me. They are really hard work. The ducks in general are WAY more work than the chickens are.

Sigh ... good thing they are so cute.

Photo Box and Etsy

I've been working away on my Etsy store, and I've been working away on a friend's Etsy store, and I've also been adding a friend's stuff to my Etsy store ... Oh my! The work really never stops.

As you know I opened a Etsy store a couple of months ago and I have slowly been adding products to it. A friend of mine wanted to open an Etsy store and didn't know how to do it, so I'm helping her get her products in her store. She has a lot more products than I was expecting! I've already put on close to a hundred products. Thankfully I think I'm almost done and its always nice to help!

Another friend sent me a pile of chainmail stuff they couldn't sell, so I spent the last two days putting all of it on to my store. It takes me about 15 minutes to place each ad (taking photos;cropping photos; adding photos; filling out the ad; researching shipping prices etc), so it's a lot of hours of boring tedious work.

I was having a horrible time taking quality photos of the chainmail jewelry so I made a photo box ...

To make a photo box, I simply used an old small clear plastic bin. I cut a spot in the top to lay a light, and taped white paper to the back and floor. It was super easy and works great!

And here's the finished light box! It made a huge difference on the photos!
