New Puppy and a Turkey of a Turkey
We finally got a LGD (livestock guardian dog). We've been trying to find the right dog for the last year or so, but things kept not working out. things worked out this time!
This is Toffee. she is a 7 week old Maremma sheepdog/Labrador Retriever cross.
Maremma sheepdogs originate from Italy and are renowned for being no nonsense livestock guardians and herders.
Maremma sheepdogs do NOT make good pets. They are suspicious of strangers and tend to be very protective, as most LGDs are. They take a LOT of exercise and need a job to be truly happy. The small amount of lab in her will help make her a bit friendlier, but shouldn't mess up her excellent LGD instincts. She's exactly what we need!
I was out walking the dogs and came back to see this ... what a turkey! Those are my clean clothes! Life with a turkey is never boring! They are quite the troublemakers! She has broken several clothesline now!

Porcupines, Ponds and Skulls
Found this skull on the edge of our back pond. It looks like a female deer or yung deer skull.
Maple sap is running pretty good this year!
Saw an awesome porcupine in a tree in our forest! super cute!
My back pond is disappearing. It is draining out to the pond across the street. so sad :( There use to be a beaver and the pond was gorgeous and then so scumbag shot the beaver, three years later the beaver's dam is ruined and the pond is almost gone. If anyone has suggestions on how to plug the hole, please let me know. We tried mud and stones, but it didn't help.

George
I got a new turkey tom yesterday. His name is George. He is a Bourbon Red, which is a heritage breed that originated from the USA. George was born last June so is about a month older than my female turkey Mindy.
There was a bit of a fight when George first got here, but nothing serious. him and Mindy already seem to becoming friends.
George is much tamer and calmer than the turkey tom I got a few months ago that ran off on me! Hopefully he'll work out much better!

New Puppy
My new puppy is almost 4 weeks old now! How exciting! I'm picking her up Feb 24. Can't wait! I need a good livestock guardian farm dog so badly!
I'm still trying to decide a good name for her :)
