The silkie pen

We've had a harrier (hawk) attack so our little birds- silkies, polkies and chicks- are in lockdown in the pen. Today was the first day that the chicks joined them, so there's a bit of bullying, but no worries! They are all now good friends :)

Mama Tire

This is the last of my outdoor plants. I call her mama tire; she's planted in a tire and I took a bunch of clones off her earlier in the summer. She is over a year old; she is a clone I took off of last summer's "Mama tire". I kept her in a vegetative state all last winter so I'd have her for this summer. I took about 10 clones off her this summer and plan to keep two in a vegtivestate over the winter so I can do the same next summer. I have already removed a bunch of the bud off the top as it got a bit frost damaged. she was taller than the fence before I trimmed her.

Hard Frost

When I awoke this morning it was -1, feels like -5. hrd frost on the ground. the pumpkin patch is officially dead for the year. We went out and gathered the last of the gourds.

Checking geese eggs - 6 days into incubation

The geese tried really hard all spring/summer, but were unable to successfully hatch any babies. They recently started laying again and have set up a nest, so we stole two eggs and are attempting to incubate them ourselves so if the geese fail again, we'll have a gosling or two for them. Fingers crossed it works! we've never incubated geese eggs before.

The End of the Pumpkin Patch

Friends and acquaintances are slowly coming to get pumpkins and gourds for Halloween

Tom, his wife and son got one of our biggest pumpkins! They also took a medium sized white pumpkin

Serene and her daughter Seanna took two medium sized pumpkins and a few small decorative gourds.  Seanna had a wonderful time picking them out!

Melanie, her mom Linda and their roommate Justin got a pile of decorative gourds, small pumpkins and two medium sized pumkins.

I've got more pumpkins headed to their Halloween home today and later this week. If anyone lives near by and would like a free pumpkin or two, just let me know!

The whole fighting with the cow owners and getting stuck cleaning up 16 months of cow crap sucked so bad. giving out all the pumpkins and gourds for free is my way of turning a bad situation into something good. :)

Wishing you all a great week! Huge hugs and love! Be well friends!

September 8th

Wow! It's September already. Time flies by. Christmas sales are starting on the sites I sell my art on and I'm working on winter wood! Summer seems to have left in a hurry!

Here's some pics from around the farm!

My three pheasants - Robin, Marian and Tuck are all still here! And they are beautiful! This is a pic of Robin. Look at those colours!

Today's wood work. We cut down three large dead trees.

And then we cut off all the limbs and got it ready to cut into woodstove size pieces :)

Here's an adorable pic of Nibs and her two babies :)

Last pic. this crazy little dude has been chosen as our new barnyard rooster. He's a Polish/Showgirl cross. He's hilarious! He should make super cute offspring!

Wishing you all the best! Don't forget to vote in the upcoming election; only 12 days away! Every vote is important!

Hugs and love!

Pumpkin Patch and yard work

Good day awesome friends! hope you are all doing great!

I made yet another pumpkin patch video as it's gotten even bigger! It amazes me!

We are still working on cleaning up Turtle Lane- the cow area. Cut down another 20+ small trees today and cut the grass, It's about 80% grass now, just struggling to get grass in the front area where all the hay was dumped.

The below pic is our wagon full of the dead trees and tree limbs we cut down this morning.

This is apic from the back of Turtle Lane. It's starting to look beautiful again!

And a pic from the front/road end of turtle Lane.

This pic is from yesterday. It shows the wood we cut up for winter. :) It's the first of many wood cutting days!

Things are going well here on the farm. Lots of babies hatching :) I found out yesterday that one of the horses that stayed here for 16 months passed on. I feel very sad over that. I don't like the cow/horse owners, but love the animals. I have no idea what happened. It was an older horse ... It had a leg infection when it left here (from a cow horn) ... the whole thing makes me feel very uncomfortable in my heart. They have only been gone 6 months, I wonder what happened. Not my business, right? No, it's not, it's just hard not to wonder, and worry, when it's an animal that I cared for, for 16 months. Shitty situation :(

Wishing you all the very best! Huge hugs and love!

Pumpkin and Squash Patch

Another pumpkin/squash patch video. I'm so amazed by it. All the pumpkins and squash seeds came from pumpkins and squash that people in the area donated to our farm after Halloween. Normally we give them to our poultry, but for the two years the cows/horses were here, we gave them to them instead. I find it interesting that the squash doesn't seem to have been cross pollinated. Whenever we try growing multiple types of squash/pumpkins they always seem to cross pollinate on us! Thank you to everyone who kindly donated their after-Halloween pumpkins/squash. The cows enjoyed them and now they've made more :) Nature is amazing!

The end of July

Hello wonderful friends! hope you are all doing great!

Can you believe July is almost over?! summer always goes by so quick!

Things have been busy here on the farm. Lots of babies hatching and plants growing!

The cats were on the ball and killed this fierce killer a couple of days ago. It's a short tailed weasel, also called a stout or ermine. Absolutely adorable creatures, but unfortunately they are a HUGE threat to the birds. They can fit through a quarter size hole and will kill everybody in the coop just for the fun of it. It's the first weasel-type critter we've seen around here and hopefully the last. They are mighty scary to me. Much easier to protect my feathered friends from foxes and coyotes.

My turkey poults are growing quickly and have started freernaging.

The turkey poults live with my pheasants. I left the door open yesterday so the pheasants could come out too, but they never did! The door was open all day yesterday and they never left! LOL Guess they decided the outdoor world was too scary. I don't blame them! The door is open again today, maybe they'll decide to come out :)

Wishing you all, all the best! huge love!

A pic of me outside the vaccination center (Walmart)

Here's some pics from around the farm :)

this is Gus the cat beside a giant hole the chickens and guineas made to dirt bath in. What a bunch of twits! My whole lawn near the house has holes all over the place!

Mr Peabody, the gander, guarding his ladies that are on a nest in the baby barn :)

Next two pics of our a little gang of 3 month old chicks I got from the feed store early May.

Turkey pults and Ring-neck pheasants.

And lastly, mama Elvira with her two new chicks :)

Fixing Fences, Ducklings and Clean Pools

Good day wonderful friends!

Lots happening on the farm this week!

The back wall of our silkie chicken pen collapsed, so yesterday we had to take it down and put up a new one.

We had to clean up behind the pen first. It was over-run by 4 feet tall weeds! LOL The pallet is holding up the wall; as soon as it was moved that end of the wall collapsed. Tavis and I were outside when the wall collapsed, so Travis held it up while I put the pallet in place.

Once we moved the pallet, the whole end and top of the wall went down. The bottom part was still sturdy so we left it to help anchor the next fence to.

New fencing; some discarded deck railing :) We found over at the gravel pits last year. It easily attached to the bottom wall. We ran some plastic sheets along the bottomto ensure no chicks could escape (chicks could obviously fit between the bars)

We also got a pen set up for the chicks we got at the co-op/feedstore. 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Barred Rock crosses; and 3ring-necked pheasants

And we got the yard all cleaned up, and the duck pools scrubbed out and refilled

The geese enjoying their clean pool.

A saw this cute fella at the pond and took his pic :) I almost always have a camera with me :)

Last pic; some sweet Muscovy ducklings

I also got a couple of new designs done :)

You can find all my designs on my Teepublic store

Wishing you all a great Friday! Huge love to you all! Be safe! Stay kind!

Monday

Good day wonderful friends! Hope you all had a great weekend! Happy Monday!

This morning we spent two hours trimming and taking down trees (from the cows). We are maybe 20% done cleaning up the trees, still so much to do. Every single tree needs some sort of trim. Every pine tree under 4 feet is dead and needs to be removed. Hoping to have it done by the end of summer, we just keep trudging on it

Every single tree has at least a few broken branches that need trimmed off.

We have pumpkins growing in the front section, where all the hay/poop was, of Turtle lane (cow area). The seeds were obviously left over from the numerous pumpkins the cows had. They grew right through the hay! Since the area is a work in progress this summer and not really being used, we are just gonna let them grow. Maybe we'll get some pumpkins! :)

And a heads up for anyone who follows this or any blogger blog via the "FollowByEmail" widget (Feedburner). It is going away. It is being discontinued in July.

Wishing you all a super great day! Sending huge love!
