Presents, Books, Tapping and Sun

Like everyone, I love presents! :)Yesterday I was kindly gifted this lovely floor clock.

and this awesome handmade boat! (The one in the front; the one behind the sweet gentlemen gifted me a couple of months ago)

I got a copy of the Koran in the mail today. I purchased a used copy off of Ebay for $5. I've never read it and as I have a very limited understanding of Islam I thought I should read it. I think we would have a lot less problems in the world if everyone would take the time to learn about other's religions. From what I have heard the Koran has some violence in it, but so does the old testament of the Bible. It was actually reading the Bible that made me change religions 18 years ago. The God of the old testament in the Bible was too scary for me! I'm sure the Koran will be an interesting read.

I started tapping trees today! YAY! I cheat and use 2L pop bottles instead of expensive metal buckets. The sap is running great!

And lastly, all the snow is almost melted! 90cm of snow melted in six days, not bad!

Driveway Woes

90cm of snow has about 80% melted in 5 days. however, as it rushes down the driveway it's made some serious ruts :( It looks pretty awesome, but is not overly nice to drive over with a little car.

I have a gravel pile on the property, so we are going to have to dig up some gravel and fill in the ruts. Unfortunately the gravel hill is still frozen rock hard. Dang

On a happier note, here's a couple of fun photos of me doing a photo shot out in the forest :)

Happy Ducks

Today, the ducks decided they were going to the pond. The ice in the pond hasn't actually melted yet, but there is about a foot and a half of water on top of the ice. We shoveled them a water path and a little bath area. They LOVED it! They were so happy to be able to splash in the water! We also got another duck egg today!

First Duck Egg!

I went to let the ducks out of their coop this morning and guess what I found! My first ever duck egg! YAY! Super de duper excited! Not sure if it's an Indian Runner egg or a Saxony egg. Don't want babies yet so we confiscated it. Also had the first chicken egg in about two weeks this morning (Feb is the worst month for eggs; the ladies usually go on strike). The pic is a bit blurry, the big white egg is the duck egg and the smaller brownish egg is a chicken egg

And just because they are adorable, here's a pic my son took this morning. My two mama's boys :) Buddha and Taco

My Chihuahua's snowsuit showed up in the mail today ... we ordered it in November ... gee thanks. A little late now. Oh well, we have it for next year now. He looks adorable and it's gonna keep he very warm

And my minnow trap showed up today too! Now I just need the ponds to unfreeze. My plan is to catch little fish in the big back pond and move them to the front small pond, so the duck can hunt/eat them.

Chatham Ontario Friends!

Looking for something fun to do St. Patrick's Day? The Groove Noodles (the band playing) are good friends of mine. The bassist, Carol, is one of my dearest friends. Linda the lovely lady, whose name/number is at the bottom is a wonderful person. You can give her a call (or call the legion) to get tickets. The Groove Noodles play classic rock and are extremely good :)

Health Update

Well, I had an appointment with my specialist this afternoon. As usual, it went crappy. my specialist is just not a very caring person. She doesn't listen to me and I disn't even get a chance to tell her what's going on. She just can't be bothered. I go in with a careful and neatly written list of symptoms and she won't even take the time to read it over. I really don't like her and she makes me feel horrible, and like the two times before I left her office feeling depressed and sad.

I did get some test results back:

Blood tests: My B12 is great (I have pernicious anemia so that's super good), but my iron is crazy low. Iron should normally be around 50, I am at 7. That's not good. I have to start taking iron pills now (in addition to B12 and folic acid). Iron deficiency is usually caused by poor diet (Vegetarians and vegans often have low iron), but I have a very healthy diet, so that's not the problem. The Doctor didn't even ask what my diet was! You'd think she would of asked! The low iron levels would explain my huge lack of energy and several of my other symptoms. I'm really pissed, I googled my iron levels and they are dangerously low. Super dangerously low. I had the blood tests done back in Jan, why the hell didn't the Doctor call and let me know to start taking some iron pills? She seriously put my life in danger! What an asshat! Google tells me a blood transfusion is standard practice for anyone with iron under 7.8 ... sigh

The Doctor *thinks* maybe I have celiac disease, but I disagree. Celiac disease is a gluten intolerance and I don't seem to have that problem. I don't get a sick stomach from grains etc. However, Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease and once you have one (I have two already) you tend to get more, so it's possible.

The Doctor also found that my thyroid levels were low, but she wanted to retest in three months before medicating.

Breathing Test: My breathing test showed I have a COPD: stage 2 moderate obstruction lung disease. That's also very common with sarcoidosis. I got some fancy new expensive inhaler: Breo Ellipta. Hopefully it will help. It has a lot of side effects, so I guess we'll see how it goes.

She told me that my lungs were pretty damaged and I should try to take "short walks to rebuild them" of five minutes a couple of times daily ... LOL! Is she friggin' kidding me?! Again, it shows how much she doesn't listen! I get huge exercise! More than most healthy people! My driveway is 1km long! I walk the dogs, I shovel snow, I care for the ducks and chickens, I do yard work, I do dances! I get a couple of hours of exercise almost every day of the week (1-2 days a week I'm just too exhausted and my awesome son does it all for me, but 5-6 days a week I do it!). What an idiot!

To make my whole Doctor experience worse, I needed to get a form filled out (for government help for my prescriptions etc) and she said "she didn't have time to fill out forms and to take it to my family Doctor" ... ummm she's only be told 50 times I don't have a family Doctor yet! I'm on the damn government list for one! Have been for over six months! What a bitch!

Sooooo, I got more blood tests and a celiac disease test and i think a couple of other tests to do over the next couple of month. Hopefully I'll get a family Doctor soon so I can get the heck away from her. She is not good for my health!

Overall it was a frustrating and depressing experience. I'm not too sad over the health stuff. I was expecting that and all in all I'm not doing too bad. Just upset over the horrible Doctor.

Hugs and love!

Oximeter

Hi! Hope you are all doing fantastic!

My driveway is still full of snow, but it has at least decreased! We are suppose to be getting +7 to +9 on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so hopefully that will be enough to melt the rest of the snow on the driveway away!

I got an oximeter in the mail today. This cool little gadget checks my oxygen levels and heart rate. At the moment, my oxygen levels are 93 (normal is 95-100) and my heart rate is 70.  It`s a great device for me to ensure my oxygen stays at an OK level. Anything under 90, I have to go to the hospital for. I got it from Ebay, it was only $10.

Last week I made a few new designs:

Nova Snowya

Yesterday's blizzard was epic! We got about 40cm of snow. Add that top the 20cm we already had, we are at about 60cm! WOW! And it's STILL SNOWING!

Mother Nature is AMAZING!

So, I'm snowed in for a week or two. Not a big deal at all as my hydro and internet is still working fine (obviously!). We got the ducks and chickens already dug out and an area for the dogs to run around in.

We are just going to slowly start making a path from the house to the road and then expand from there. We can simply bring groceries and whatnot down the driveway on a sled until things get cleared.

we are all good and honestly, I'm rather amused by it all. I haven't seen this much snow since the huge blizzard in London in the 1970s. We have heat, food, drinks, the critters are safe, so life is awesome :)

Here's a pic of the front of the house. The drifts are HUGE!

And here's my quack pack. They came out for about 30 minutes and then went back to their coop.

Once the snow stops, I'll get some better pics!

Hugs and love!
